Work Update

In the past week I have spent a lot of time finishing off my screenplay and am at a mid point with the storyboards.

As soon as I have finished this I plan on writing a shot list, (possibly in the form of a shooting script,) to make filming easier and more organised when I get to it

I have also begun gathering props and arranging locations and actors/actresses for when I will begin filming.

I have also started an analysis of how the stylistic elements in 'The Ring' (Gore Verbinski, 2002) help portray the genre of psychological horror, which I should be posting soon once it is finished.

The findings from my analysis will help me understand how the conventions of the genre can be actively applied to a text.

Location and Props

The film will be set entirely within Peter's house (the scenes will be shot in my family home, so that the location will be readily available when needed). This will also add to the shock-element of the horror, as the idea of such horrific events happening in an everyday marital home will strike more of a chord with the audience, and make the horror more pronounced and shocking.

As it is a psychological horror, to imply internal torment/conflict, the mise-en-scene will be cramped, so I will have to consider this while preparing the rooms of the house for filming.

The props I will use will include costume for the characters, and also the letter delivered to Peter, his wife's ring, the clutter of the room as he awakes at the start (bottles, plates and general litter, for example).

Also, the knife used to murder his wife, and the means of killing himself at the end will also be of importance, and will have to be obtained/prepared before filming is to begin. To add meaning to Maria's revenge I will probably use the same knife used to kill her in Peter's suicide scene.

Also, when Peter's wife haunts him, to make her appear more horrific and ghostlike, special effects make up and possibly a plain white face mask (to add to the eerie feeling) will also be needed.

I will make a more detailed props list before filming, to help me make sure i have everything ready when it is needed.

I hope to start filming within the next week or two, which all depends when I can get the props, location and actors and actresses ready for.
